  1. I have read all of your come by chance books at least twice. Do you have any after Jane? I do miss all of the people of the town.

  2. Here it is 1:23 AM, and I decided to check my e-mails. The first thing I saw was Jane was out. So I got online and pulled up my Kindle and got Jane on there. Boy, was I glad to finally get this book. I now have it there, and as soon as I finish the one I am reading now, I will start on this one. Thanks for this one being ready to read. I know it will be a good one. Judy Bishop

    • I’m so happy the book is finally out, and that some of you even still remember Come-By-Chance after having to wait so long! And I’m sorry about making you wait all this time! Here’s hoping you’ll enjoy the book — it’s the longest one yet, and I think it’s the best. And I really, really loved spending time with Jane!
Thanks again for reading my books!

    • Hi Marcia,
So happy you love the Come-By-Chance series!
Jane has been a difficult book to write and complete. Unexpected events have delayed Jane’s book beyond what I ever thought possible. Still, it won’t be long now – hopefully July 2018 (finger, toes & eyes crossed!).
For the Come-By-Chance folk, there’s a lot riding on what happens next, so I can’t release it until it’s as good as I can possibly make it. It’s the final book in this series. It’s been a long wait for my loyal readers, and will hopefully be worth the long wait.
And thanks so much for reading my books!
      Happy reading, Juliet

It won’t be long now – Jane will be uploaded to retailers within a week! And the 3rd box-set (Ava & Ina, Lillie, Pearl and Jane ) won’t be far behind. I really do hope you enjoy it.
Thank you for reading my books!

  3. Juliet,

    Ruby and Emily were delightful.

The thing I look for most in a book is unpredictability. There were so many moments in your Come-by-Chance series when I was at first disappointed that the characters were walking through with little-to-no conflict, but then you would pull a complete 180!

I also enjoyed the characters, especially Emmy-Lou. You remind us that it is more important for a character to be interesting than likeable. Not that she is unlikeable, of course, just a tad annoying to Emily. I laughed out loud when she kept being “stoppy-starty” with Emily.

I’m a writer myself, just beginning my publishing journey. One of my projects is a western, and I’m quickly falling in love with the genre through my research. Your own passion for it is evident in the series.

Good luck with all of your endeavors, writing and otherwise,

    Caeli

    • Hi Caeli! Thanks so much for those kind words, they mean a lot to me.

Emmy-Lou was so much fun to write, and her own arrival in Come-By-Chance in Book Six certainly livens up the town. She’s still stoppy-starty — but I think our dear Emmy-Lou has learned a few things about life during her Come-By-Chance journey.

With your obvious passion for Westerns, and writing in general, I think you’re certain to succeed. If you don’t mind me offering one piece of advice to take with you, I’d say, Enjoy it. Write characters you love — maybe even FOR all their quirks and foibles, not just despite them. And at least one character you can’t help hating. But mostly, characters you love.

Thanks again Caeili, and best of luck on your writing and publishing journey.

Even though the books are named after the brides, each book is also about the town and all the people who live in it — and it is getting to be a very busy town!

  5. I love this series. I just can’t get enough. My suggestion would be a series as a takeoff from “Come by Chance”. But for now I hope the series continues to have new brides and their stories. Also, I look forward to see “Come by Chance” to be the town it was meant to be.
    Thank you and God bless.

    • Thank you Kathy — so glad you love the series! I am seriously considering continuing the series with new brides, however, I wonder how long it will still feel fresh? But what I do know is that I can not and will not give up on the town and all the people in it! I will miss them too much if I stop now.
A Come-By-Chance spinoff? Great idea! I’ve had a few ideas … including other genres too. Maybe a cozy mystery set in the town in the late 1800s, the 1920s or even current times?
Your suggestions are welcome too (or anyone else reading this).
      Best wishes,

    • I love your infectious enthusiasm Margie! Sometimes I have so much fun in Come-By-Chance, I forget where I am!
I often find myself daydreaming … “If Come-By-Chance was a TV series, who would play Wally? Maybe he could be the narrator? Or maybe the narrator could be Ben & Lettie’s grandchild? And what about the verbose Kate? Flibbertigibbet Emmy-Lou? Dependable and handsome Ben Wilkinson? and the lovely Lettie?
I really hope you love Lillie and another visit to Come-By-Chance. You never know you may even get to live there one day…

  10. I had purchased the first five of this series quite a while ago. I can’t explain what made me finally read one, oh, but when I did I enjoyed it so immensely that I read four of them in 7 hours. I read one out of order (4th one) and could not wait to catch up. Please keep on writing these books, I absolutely love them and I feel as though I need to follow all of the citizens lives now. 11. I am a fast reader and love to read series straight through. Can you tell me the schedule for the release of the remaining “Brides of 1885” so that I can purchase all at once? I’m planning a vacation in October and would LOVE to have all of them to take with me!

    Liked by 1 person

    • Hi Denola!
I only wish I could write these books as fast as you can read them. Coral is almost finished, and will be out within a couple of weeks, allowing time for proofreading and formatting. Then Book Three will hopefully be out within a month of that. There will be six books in the 1885 series, so it’ll take a while! I’m hoping to do a book a month from now on, so Book Six will hopefully be released in January.
If you need a good series to read during your holiday in October, I can highly recommend my friend Annie Lane’s “Seasons” series, which I edited for her.
The first book is called Charlotte’s Summer, and I believe all four books are now available.
Thanks for stopping by, and happy reading, Juliet.

  13. While Juliet James’ books are great, I can’t seem to find anything about this author. I have Googled and Binged but nothing! Is this author writing under another name? I’m always interested in the author’s story – it adds a personal touch to the writing. Thank you.

    • Hi Lynette, thanks for the reminder!
A couple of friends kept telling me to put a photo on my author page, but I think they eventually gave up! I’m a bit of an introvert, and also, I do have a good reason for being somewhat private about my past — don’t worry, nothing too scary…
But now you have me thinking — maybe I could share a little more than I have. I’ll see what I can come up with, but for now, I live with the world’s most beautiful (and loudest) cat, and drink too much Earl Grey tea. As soon as I get time I’ll try to find a photo that’s not too old, not too new, not too borrowed and not too blue…
      Thanks again, and best wishes,
      Juliet

  15. I made the mistake of reading these books out of order, and I’m frustrated no end. For example, Slim Jim is caught, escapes, is caught again (but not in that order, in my reading). I remember things from books I read out of order, and I keep trying to place who did what, and when. It makes me want to go back and read, as I would in a multi-volume set–but I can’t. And it’s too much trouble to figure out what book it would be and re-open it. So I go along just WONDERING. I wish I’d found a reading list early on, so I could have read them in order.

    Liked by 1 person

    • That’s a really valid point, thank you so much for making it.
At the moment that order is only in the back of the books and on this website, but I’ll make sure to put it in the front of the books now where it’ll do the most good.
I’m currently away for a week looking after my nephews, but when I get back I’ll see to it.
Also, you’ve given me another timely reminder to do a box set. I’ll see to that as soon as I can. Thanks for the reminder. I’d be happy to send you that box set when it’s done, although I suspect it’s too late now. Still, if you’d like that, just say so, I’d love to send it to you.

By the way, I had a quick read over at your excellent blog. I particularly liked your article, “Rules are made to be broken,” and how, as an editor, you understand that. Many so-called editors and proofreaders do not. And the photo of your Grand Aunt — wonderful! Just so you know, I love headscarves, and have been collecting them for many years — I recently gave away almost fifty, but I still have more than a hundred. (I like to wear them some days while I write.)

And just so you know, I prefer paperbacks too. I wish I could make the paperbacks cheaper than they are, as $9.99 each adds up to a lot for the whole series. I’ll look into discount codes, and if I can organize something, I’ll let everyone know via the mailing list.
